[6:21] <philmaker> Hello everyone
[6:21] <philmaker> Hello Christoph
[6:22] <philmaker> I downloaded Helma a couple of weeks ago and have mainly been reading. I downloaded OpenMocha this evening.
[6:23] <philmaker> Are there any examples available beyond what comes with the downloads? I'm mainly seeking simple AJAX/XML/JSON examples.
[6:24] <philmaker> I know it's all pretty simple I guess (calls to toJSON() etc)
[8:56] <zumbrunn> hi philmaker
[8:56] <zumbrunn> welcome to helmaland
[8:56] <philmaker> I love it
[8:56] <philmaker> Sorry about my questions. I am digging in right now...
[8:56] <zumbrunn> the shell that is part of the helmaTools.zip contains some ajax code
[8:57] <zumbrunn> do send and evaluating the commands
[8:57] <zumbrunn> but it just inserts the html response into a div
[8:57] <zumbrunn> (no xml woodoo in there)
[8:58] <zumbrunn> http://helma.zumbrunn.net/reference/Xml.html
[8:58] <philmaker> If I want to return XML in an AJAX request, am I supposed to use the Helma XML object and writeToString()?
[8:58] <zumbrunn> http://helma.zumbrunn.net/reference/jala/XmlWriter.html
[8:59] <philmaker> groovy thanks
[8:59] <zumbrunn> or you could use e4x on the server side
[8:59] <philmaker> I'll keep plugging along...
[8:59] <zumbrunn> but then you need a rhino version that contains some important e4x fixes...
[8:59] <philmaker> I'm ramping up with ExtJS and Helma at the same time here. I'm mainly a Java and Swing programmer.
[8:59] <philmaker> Helma looks like lots of fun.

[9:00] <philmaker> I've been reading your blog.
[9:00] <zumbrunn> (just for the link to the rhino jar)
[9:00] <philmaker> I am also a Mac user. And I used to own two Amigas.
[9:01] <zumbrunn> hehe ;-)
[9:01] <philmaker> I saw a link on your blog about Amiga history.
[9:01] <zumbrunn> yep...
[9:01] <zumbrunn> the amiga was a great machine
[9:02] <zumbrunn> commodore was just a shitty company
[9:02] <philmaker> hehe
[9:02] <philmaker> I got my first Amiga only in ~1990
[9:03] <philmaker> It was fascinating when they arrived in 1985 because not even the Macs were in color then.
[9:03] <zumbrunn> if amiga would have been bought by apple instead of commodore, we would have had rhapsody/macosx 15 years earlier
[9:03] <philmaker> Played cool games like Populus, Shadow of the Beast, and Warmonger - just a few I remember - I don't play games really anymore.
[9:04] <philmaker> righto
[9:06] <philmaker> I'm going to get to bed soon. I'm in Austin, Texas - it's about 3am.
[9:06] <philmaker> I hope to visit here more later.
[9:06] <zumbrunn> ok
[9:06] <philmaker> I'll try to help contribute - examples, etc
[9:07] <philmaker> er, more examples
[9:07] <philmaker> bye
[9:08] <zumbrunn> yes, more examples would be great!
[9:08] <philmaker> woot!
[9:08] <zumbrunn> (that was steve jobs mistake that got him fired... when he should have been talking to amiga inc, he was instead convincing john sculley not to spend his life selling sugar water)
[9:08] <philmaker> hehe
[23:10] <philmaker> I'm having a problem calling toJSON()
[23:10] <philmaker> Error in application welcome
[23:10] <philmaker> TypeError: Cannot find function toJSON.
[23:11] <philmaker> in helma-1.6.0
[23:11] <philmaker> It's like it can't find JSON.js
[23:12] <philmaker> If I instead declare a function for Object.prototype.toJSON inside Helma's Object.js - it finds it OK.
[23:23] <philmaker> but that was just a simple text function returning nothing really.
